Black community suffers most from Arenas’ stupidity (via FoxSports.com)
Gilbert Arenas is not the latest idiot on the block. His recent choices just make it seem that way.
It’s bad enough the franchise player for the Washington Wizards brought a few guns into an NBA arena — and tweeted about it either before consulting his legal representation or simply ignoring the consultation he undoubtedly received. But when you consider the allegations presently being publicized regarding his brandishing a gun at teammate Jarvaris Crittendon, Arenas’ admission of “goofball” tendencies and his willingness to laugh it off, seemingly oblivious to the legal ramifications coming down the pike, this level of idiocy would put Forrest Gump to shame. If only it was a laughing matter.
Let’s be clear. By no means am I trying to say this is only a BLACK problem. That Black athletes have a monopoly on stupid acts. Nevertheless, they’re the ones stigmatized and excoriated. And our young are the ones most drastically affected by their actions. Considering the fact that you’re already at a disadvantage as a minority, what else can occur but the worst possible results?
By his own tweeted admission, Arenas has already violated gun laws within the District of Columbia. Laws that pertained to him carrying and concealing a weapon. Because he lives in Virginia but works in D.C., he also may have violated laws regarding carrying weapons across state lines, which explains why the U.S. Attorney’s Office is now reportedly involved in the matter, communicating with D.C.’s Metro Police Department.
Notice I haven’t even touched on the possibility that Arenas’ gun(s) were not licensed in D.C.
Meanwhile, there’s also the issue of whether, indeed, Arenas brandished a gun in a threatening manner at Crittendon. Whether Crittendon, in response, brandished his own concealed weapon (which, if true, it says here, will end Crittendon’s NBA career) or instead tried to grab one of Arenas’ guns. And there’s been no mention of Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld reportedly telling the league about guns being in the locker room but failing to reveal a confrontation involving the guns, along with the potential consequences any truth to those allegations in the New York Post may entail.
“There won’t be any,” a league official said, speaking on condition of anonymity, specifically about Grunfeld Sunday afternoon. “Whatever has been reported accurately was already revealed to us by Ernie. We have no issue with anything involving Mr. Grunfeld.”
Good. One potential mess no one needs to concern themselves with.
But the mess that Arenas has created is not going away. Nor are the questions destined to follow about professional athletes, specifically those from the African-American Community — and how the criminal element has virtually hijacked the culture of Black America.
As much as I’ve tried to disagree with my friend and noted contemporary, Jason Whitlock, who’s repeatedly and vociferously lamented the state of affairs within the Black Community — specifically as it pertains to the negative parts of Hip Hop and its influence on Black culture — it simply cannot be denied any longer.
Genocide is taking place in the Black Community, and this is a form of it.
For every foolish act like Plaxico Burress, Ron Artest or Arenas, there’s a Grant Hill, Shane Battier or LeBron James — guys who will be employing Black athletes one day, either in an executive or ownership capacity.
But their behavior is not what is influencing Black America’s youth, specifically its cultural ambience. It’s the culture of tattoos (jailhouse or otherwise) enjoying increased prevalence and notoriety. This hyper-masculinity syndrome. This alpha-male environment that stimulates the worst in an educated individual like Crittendon (Georgia Tech), preventing a sensible young man raised by both of his parents from walking away from a crazy incident that could cost him millions in potential earnings. Even worse, it’s jeopardized the career of Arenas and his six-year, $111million contract, plus an additional $50 million deal with adidas allegedly over a gambling debt that amounted to less than $500.
“It’s truly sickening,” one African-American front-office official told me Sunday afternoon. “There’s just no excuse for this. This is a $4 billion industry guys are trying to turn into a $2 billion industry. There’s just a flagrant lack of appreciation for the position they’re in … mainly because of someone wanting to look more like a man, not be punked, acting literally like prisoners locked in a prison yard with one another. It’s utterly ridiculous.
“I don’t know how anyone would feel about this, because some folks truly believe we won’t have these problems if the league reduced the maximum years of guaranteed deals down to just three years. I’ll go a step further …
“Lock the damn players out. Shut the league down for a year and see what happens when these guys are not cutting these checks. I bet you the few who don’t act right will straighten up then.”
Sadly, we can only suspect there’s truth to that argument.
The argument that can no longer be made, however, is that actions like the one Arenas committed are just that of the few. Not because it’s untrue, but because few people care. Mainstream media didn’t spend the weekend bantering about Arenas. They used Arenas to bloviate about “why do these athletes carry guns?”
It’s the same question they asked about Plaxico Burress, while he was walking into a jail cell.
It gave them an excuse to bring up Michael Vick, even though his crime involved dog fighting.
It provided an excuse to bring up Ron Artest, the league’s $5.8 million average salary (highest of any sports league), feeding the rationale for a debate about whether too much is given too soon to too many who are too undeserving.
This is a battle the league has fought for years. One that Commissioner David Stern has fought so brilliantly for nearly 27 years that he should be an icon in the Black Community. Except Stern won’t be, of course, because of the punishment he’ll predictably bring down upon Arenas once the Wizards’ troubled star receives due process — though it’s appropriate for Stern to step in.
Stern will be the villain, then. Not Arenas. Definitely not in the eyes of Black America.
The thing is, the time has come for the Black Community to join Stern in his fight against such utter nonsense.
Arenas is a nice man. He’s not a bad guy. We should pray for him and wish him well. But that’s after he is suspended for a year without pay and the legal system gets through dealing with him. Unless, of course, we want Rush Limbaugh’s comments about the NFL resembling “The Bloods and the Crips … without any weapons” to allude to another league dominated by young Black men!

Can’t argue with a single word you have written. Black or white, it’s all about personal responsibility and the choices we make.
I think you’re right on the money. It seems like the negative aspects of society motivates my generation, I’m 22 btw, more than the postive aspects. You hear that theres nothing postive about society, I disagree. I think the more postive you are, the less news worthy you are. I also agree that we should pray for Arenas. It’s truly sad that this gives the racist and biggots more ammo. Common sense needs to make a comback in the worse way…
Welcome back. This is why I followed you for sometime. Really good piece. You are back.
Maybe because I received your retweet from Marc and watch you on both CNN and FOX along with your tweet last night that I don’t get your point. You come across as babbling on an old subject repackaged in Stephen A. Smith wrapping paper. But your face will saturate the airwaves and you just may land temporary assignment with Nancy Grace. Work it baby, show dat leg, pimp.
Stephen,
As a young black male I’m tired of seeing what our community has become. “I’m black and I’m proud” has been replaced with the “Thug Life”culture and its flat out embarrassing now. Hip-Hop does have a lot to do with it (whether we want to be honest or not), since many males use it as a guidance. Lacking strong male role models, they idolize the hottest rapper or athlete.
When much is given, much is expected. I fear that in 10 years the NBA will not exist. You can already see the signs that if a change doesn’t occur, this will happen.
Good morning, I just wanted to say that I absolutely agree. Mr. Arenas needs to consider some counseling as well. That is not a cure all but, why would a multimillionaire carry a weapon to work. There are people at my job that I do not particular care for but I do not feel the need to store weapons there for “just in case.” Good luck and God bless!
There is a psychological need amongst black men to undermine their success. It is almost as if they’re trying desperately to work out possible guilt for making it out of the ghetto. I look at the recent problems Michael Beasley and Delante West and wonder what on earth must be going through their heads to cause them to behave so destructively.
Obviously money and fame do not cure whatever it is that causes these youngsters to self destruct. Looking deeper what we’re dealing with is the remnants of a fractured culture and dismantling of a people centuries back. The wounds are just under the skin even when the outward appearance is great. Black males are carrying an invisible burden which, apparently, becomes so damn heavy at times that only drugs, alcohol or acting out relieves the pain.
The destruction and self destruction of the black man is due in part, of course, to genocide. What we have going on today is fratricide and suicide. I read somewhere that it’s been said that you cannot take a man who has fallen behind in a race and simply place his feet on the starting line and expect him to compete. He doesn’t know how.
Similarly, one cannot scoop these kids out of the struggle of trying to go to school or an impoverished lifestyle, make them instant millionaires and expect their brains to absorb and adjust to the cessation of worrying about money and where they’re going to sleep at night. We cannot expect that kind of change to be an instant cure for being black in America. It ain’t working and it never will work.
These young black men need mentoring before, during and after making it from streetball to the D League, The Harlem Globetrotters, the NBA or the NFL. They frightened and overwhelmed and we fans, supporters and cheerleaders need to recognize that. They’re young even though like LeBron and Dwight they have the bodies of grown mature men they ain’t. They’re still kids and being thrust into the spotlight doesn’t make maturation any easier.
Yes what he did is immature and he obviously doesn’t understand the possible consequences. He will learn a powerful life lesson shortly however. Just as Plaxico, Mike Doss, Santonio, Vick and a slew of others who have made “errors in judgment.” It ain’t easy and life don’t come with no rubber erasers.
Excellent Stephen. It took guts to speak the truth! Well said and very well done!
BLACK ATHLETES SCRUTINIZED?DISADVANTAGED AS A MINORITY????Dude, have you ever heard of Barack Obama?(and the countless other upwardly
mobile black men nobody wants to mention?)WHO FREAKIN’CARES ABOUT GILBERT ARENAS????Dude’s a hip-hop a**wipe with a 65 IQ(the average
rapper’s IQ.)
OF course,I get ALL KINDS of opprobrium because I’m a classically
handsome black lad with a 154 IQ who HATES rap, loves garage rock, metal
and Country and,best of all,buxom blondes,so perhaps I shouldn’t opine
here, but unless the “keepin’it real” thug “culture” is extirpated in
the NBA-and the rest of black America(and black Canada)we’re SCREWED!!
I recently had a very-educated woman explain to me that it is this type of behavior turns her on. This hyper-masculinity syndrome. To paraphrase her remarks, “an educated brother can go listen to his jazz records and pat himself on the back all he wants, but there’s just something about a thuggish man.” So we can’t necessarily blame the media for perpetuating this mentality, when it is something that is perpetuated within the so-called Black community, and then almost glorified by different aspects of the media.
It’s almost like the Italians who hate how their portrayed as mobsters and guido, when it is often other Italians who perpetuate these myths. Then you wind up getting shows like “Jersey Shore” which glorifies it.
Stephen: I agree with your assessment of the mentality of our Black atheletes. I also agree that David Stern has gone beyond the call of duty to protect the image and financial position of our Black atheletes. The time has come for harsh lessons. Gilbert should be suspended for a year and hoipefully, the Wizards will not invoke the moral clause and deny void his entire contract. He most definitely should lose th Addidas contract. He, as well as all our Black atheletes should remember what they were taught in Sunday school — to whom much is given, much is required.
Stephen A:
I’m not sure where to start. In America, I thought you were innocent until proven guilty. I would’ve respected you more, if you had posted this after the DC findings. In no way do I agree with this act if its true. I have 2 African American sons who play ball and look up to NBA players. Please don’t become the “Black Limbaugh”. When it’s all said and done, Fox will drop you when your tired of their puppet-strings and you’ll still be Black…
Peace-Out…
Man. This kind of situation has brought the Black Community a big headache after Michael Vick’s conviction on dog-fighting. It’s like a man, who has a very bright future to play in the NBA and earns millions of dollars of sponsorship, salary etc. And NOW HE is possessing firearms? How can he do such a thing? This is wrong! He could lose millions of dollars and face jail term if he is pleaded guilty. It’s really sad to hear athletes doing ridiculous things after Tiger Woods’ scandal (even though that’s not a crime). All we can do is pray and hope that Gilbert will change to a better man.
This is a sad day in sports. From alledged drug sales/use to gun possession/use, the Black athlete is slowly becoming unwanted stigmas of the Black community.
I wonder if Arenas or any other troubled Black athlete have taken the time to understand and internalize the actions of those before them; the Black athletes like a Jackie Robinson, Jack Johnson, Jim Brown, Jesse Owens, Willie Mays…the things they had to overcome to pave the way. It’s not only STUPIDITY, but there’s a level of COCKINESS to be considered in their actions.
Here’s the irony of it though Stephen A…Adidas, who endorses Arenas, signed their first Black Athlete in 1936 in Jesse Owens. We all know the turmoil that he went through in his efforts to becoming an Olympic Champion.
These guys gotta know the history Stephen A….they gotta know the history!
But what is more puzzling is that Arenas has jumped on Twitter and is basically airing out his dirty laundry. It’s a wonder if he is doing this on purpose to gain more exposure. Good or bad, Agent 0 loves the limelight.
I hope this all has a positive turn for him because face it, he doesn’t seem like a bad guy. But, it just doesn’t look good for him.
You are dead on. And don’t apologize for calling it like you see it. Feelings will get hurt and that’s ok. The truth hurts. It wasn’t you who brought the guns to work. Call a fool a fool.
Hey Stephen where have you been? We miss you on TV and radio, I’m a big fan of yours and I hope you keep me posted when you get employed by a media
Your point about Stern being vilified is so unfortunately true. If Arenas is punished with jail time the hue and cry about the unfairness of it all will exceed the hoopla about Plaxico: his weapon was discharged in public but “only” injured himself. Can you imagine what will be said about Arenas’ punishment after no bullets were fired?
lol…Ya know — Many of us folks, –we sit around and yap our gums about what’s going on, like we have all of the answers; yet many of us dont have a fuc-n clue(!) about what’s going on in our inner-cities…LET ALONE, WHY!!
I really wish I had the time to dive into this topic with-ya!! But, I will say this… Stop worrying about a dam Gilbert!!… Fucc-a Artest!! Start worrying about your own!!! This is the ONLY way, that our internal issue(s) will began to subside… Many of us yap about another, but its our own sons and daughters, that acts as a supplement, to the ignorance, and/or the supidiy, that has bombarded our communities.
That’s right(!) our nephews, nieces, cousins, -many of them are f-n up, first-hand…right in front of our faces!!! So why wont we yap to them??!! Do-ya realllllly care — about what’s going on in our streets??? Or do we just like to yap?…
Many of us are so caught-up in ur own bullshi*, that we are non-cognizant of the reality within our own camps…But yet we are so quick to analyze/prescribe an antidote for the sickness of our culture!!!
FOCUS ON YOUR OWN!!!…
PS, Ya may need scuba-gear for what im saying… Shid may be a lil too deep forya…
Oh… Almost forgot! Steve, ur the man… Much-love toya, my brotha…
SAS,
I am not sure which part you are calling stupid; having a gun(s) in the first place, bringing it and storing at work, or brandishing it in a show of machismo? Maybe Gilbert bought the gun as a direct knee reaction to Antoine Walker and Eddy Curry both being robbed at gun point in August 2007. Maybe he did not want to keep it at home where is new born could find it and he couldn’t afford a safety deposit box and needed to put it in his locker at work until he got his paycheck on Friday. Maybe working in DC a crime capital made him jumpy so when the beef about money happened he didn’t want to be shot over it so he pulled out his piece. Maybe Crittendon needed his money from Gilbert. How could Gilbert pay back a gambling debt if he couldn’t afford a safety deposit box? Or maybe Crittendon didn’t have ‘s money like he told him too and Gilbert needed really needed that money to get the safety deposit box.
All stupid. Gilbert should have learned one thing last month; if sponsors will leave Tiger over transgressions they will drop his non-producing behind over a gun.
It’s too early to tell how this will reflect on the Black Community. I am not affect Bruh! I am never mad at Commissioner Stern or Goodell for holding others accountable. If the rules are applied evenly and fairly we can’t complain. That even goes for the NBA refs. Really.

[...] Stephen A. Smith: Black community suffers most from Arenas’ stupidity [...]
Hey Stephen, good column. The behaviors of these Black athletes not only affect Black youths, they also affect White and Hispanic youths. The funny thing is a lot of these “thug” looking and acting athletes are not from the ghetto but were raised middle class. Arenas’ father was a hard working man who raised his son correctly. So for Arenas to act “thuggish” is a joke. It’s like in high school where a certain group is considered “cool” and all types of individuals gravitate to that group. It’s more a maturity issue than a race issue.
You have school teachers who risk their lives, more than cops in some aspects, everyday dealing with kids who are liable to do anything at any moment just so they can make sure these kids have a some what education. Here you have multi million dollar athleates who argue over money they already have. These athleates in EVERY SPORT need some form of pay cut to get the point across and for them to regain the love of thier respective sport cause I dont see it. Once some one makes it to a professional level there is nothing else to lookforward to (besides family) but that paycheck. You have people like Stephon Marbury who just dont know what to do with himself nowa days and no public statements on what help he is reciving to get his actions in order. Jamarcus Russell who comes in from the off season over 300lbs and shows no progress into putting the effort for what it takes to become a player that is actually worth $61million. Baseball killed it self to me as soon as all the steriod talks came in staring with Mark Mcgwire on down to Arod. Oh yeah they were lucky enough to find the black athleate to put in front of that heat wave with Barry Bonds. Dont get me wrong but alot athleates do earn there pay checks on week in and out basis, but there has to be somthing done to insure that the customers are paying to see the right people doing the right thing, and the right calls are being called but thats a whole different issue.
Happy New year Brother Smith thanks for the commentary. Our Black community as a whole is going backwards instead of moving forward. You know when Obama got elected i saw all of these black folks jumping up and down celebrating.I told some people that i want to see what difference a black President makes in our lives.Guess what a year later i still see young black males walking around with there pants to their knees (sagging).i still hear the same ignorant language used in our music. What we as a people have to understand is that no President Black or White can save us from ourselves. We have got to ask God for guideance. Because we are a great people but or Self Mutalation and self destructive behavior is so evident.Only God can save us from ourselves. We have got to mature and see what is important for ourselves and our families.God Bless take care
Stephen:
I am the mother of a son who loves and plays basketball. However, I do not want my son in an environment or any profession that would tolerate a person branishing a gun at work. That should be grounds for immediate termination. You mention a possible one year suspension for Arenas. Are you kidding me? He should be permanently terminated from the NBA. I know I may sound harsh but as a mother and citizen of this great country there is more at stake here than Gilbert’s salary. There are 7th graders(like my son) and other youth watching this and the NBA has an obligation to address this swiftly and with a termination. Otherwise, get ready to see more gun toting behavior or worse.
When will it all end, but then as you stated earlier thanks be to Lebron, Grant, Shane, etc at the other end of the Spectrum.
I most certainly agree with everything you have just said. It is sad, because they have all this talent and an opporunity to make money and be a role model for the younger generation and this is what they are showing the younger generation. Arenas has kids and he should have gotten rid of the guns period. If you are so scared of your life, hire a bodyguard. It’s just that simple. But no, these athletes feel they have to carry guns to prove a point, but by proving your point, you could end up dead and gone. No what would have happened if one of those guns had a bullet in it and they were playing around and it discharged, then someone could have been killed. When we they wake up and realize that they are throwing away thier lives and future over absoultely nothing.
Great job, Stephen A. We’ve lost a grasp on our culture. It’s completely gone. I’m not of Muslim faith, but I think it was Khalid Abdul Muhammad who was quoted in at beginning of a Public Enemy song with, “have you forgotten that once we were brought here, we were robbed of our name, robbed of our language. We lost our religion, our culture, our god… and many of us, by the way we act, we even lost our minds.” That is so true. By the way, I miss that type of hip hop. Today’s hip hop is all bling and booty. Conscious rap doesn’t get air play any more. Back to the topic, we almost have nothing now. We don’t respect anything as black men. We’re the only race who insults others in our race for being smart. We insult each other for dressing like we have some sense instead of our back pockets behind our knees. Even moguls like Jay-Z are idolized for his wealth and not for how he achieved it. It’s sad. 20 years from now, where will we be?
I agree with you, no matter how many times it has been said it is worth repeating. This tough guy posturing has to stop -specifically in sports and entertainment for us. Hard truth is, guess what, brothers? -You are employed… wheater it’s NFL, MLB or NBA, in the end it’s a J.O.B. with all the associated responsibilities. We need to break the cycle of the so-called “thug” life (We’ve even created a new derogatory slur for closet bigots). And as long as “thugs” are viewed as desirable by our women while smart, hard-working brothers are “simps” “lames” and “marks”, our work HAS to begin in the home and preschools.
This is a sad story. The careless decision made by Arenas is going to cost him more than he could imagine. I’m disappointed, but sadly not surprised.
Once again you validate my reasons for holding you in such high regard amongst all your fellow colleagues. You are right once again with your point about this being something the black community should join David Stern in with regards to the fight against such utter nonsense. The black youth in america is in a state of emergency as well as the latino youth and it pains me to see people in such positions of influence to be so careless in their actions although it is not right that every athlete should be placed on such pedestals in the eyes of the public. In my opinion its downright foolish for america to place people who only accomplish feats of great athleticism on such pedestals, but they are and the importance of this pedestal needs placed on them. You along with Mr. Jason Whitlock are brilliantly lit beacons of rational in society please keep up the fight and good work.
I agree with you S.A.S. but Arenas isn’t at fault because the media wants to stereotype Black males. That is the fault of the White media and folks like Jason Whitlock’s (who is oh so careful not to criticize a White sports personality)fat ass. Its wrong and its lazy. Any time a Black athlete runs afoul of the law we get told how awful we are.
I don’t dig stereotypes. This whole thing with Areanas is stupid but it is typical media response. You can go from Tiger to Arenas to Vick to Plax and the coverage is all the same. “Why don’t athletes of color get it?” Its my contention that athletes of color don’t “get it” any more than White entertainers in Hollywood or Nashville “don’t get it.” Or contractors in Iraq “don’t get it.”
My point is that there is no excuse for law-breaking no matter who does it. You look around down here in Atlanta and you see teacher after teacher arrested for inappropriate relationships with students. Look at the news and you see civilian contractors on trial for murders in Iraq. Who are the perpetrators of these acts??? White males!!! Pulling kids off the streets?? Mainly White guys! Actresses out in Hollywood driving drunk or driving with their children in their laps? Who are these perpetrators??? White females! Look at the Senate and state houses and even the White House and you see married men admitting to affairs AFTER they have been caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Who are they??? White males! Oh and lets not forget the White chick that went to Italy and murdered her roommate. The media’s reaction??? She didn’t get a fair trial. The bigotry is astounding!
I’m not saying White male or females are better or worse but I am saying you don’t see the same vitriol when they are caught. Its a boys will be boys kind of a thing when its White guys and when its White females we are told its a cry for help. Law enforcement goes out of their way to say they are treating them no different from anyone else. Now when its a Brother the vast majority of the media and fans says make an example of him, throw the book at him. Any fair minded person reading this post knows that is the truth.
Doubt me? How many looks did the media give Tom Brady when photographers reported that his security people shot at them? Now look at the outcry over Areanas and Tiger. Look at Mary J. Blige, she attacked her husband in public and the media yawns pretty much like it did when Brian Giles kicked his girlfriend’s butt and it was caught on tape.
Again, not excusing anything just saying that ALL White men are adulterers, most of the contractors in Iraq aren’t murderers, most American students in Italy don’t kill their roommate and most Black males aren’t thugs (the new White word for Nigger).
S.A.S. thank you for the platform.
I meant to say that all White men are NOT adulterers.
Stephen A you are right. It’s a blessing and a curse to be a gifted african american athlete.
Millions can’t produce morals, many of these athletes have not been trained to respect authority at home or elsewhere. Bad actions bring consequences and hopefully Gilbert Arenas and others will learn from their mistakes and be given an opportunity to redeem themselves. We all sin and come short of the glory of GOD, so lets not judge or condemn thats GOD”S job and he does all things well.
One last thing S.A.S. folks like you and Whitlock need to be out on front street criticizing the missteps of White athletes too. Not just when a Brother does something. Call out folks like the James family or the coach out there at Kansas. But I forgot they don’t want to hear what you all have to say about White folks. You are only needed to cosign their bigotry on Blacks. So sad!
###
From SAS: I only have one comment on that: Where the hell have you been? We’ve been doing this for years.
I agree with you 1000%. The word “Genocide” is obviously over-doing it, but it might be the correct one to throw around for some athletes to start grasping even a little about the responsibilities they have as not only professionals, but also as working citizens.
Obviously this is blatantly obvious, but I feel it has to be said: Arenas gets paid by the Wizards to play basketball, it’s his job. If someone working in a corporate office or gas station or whatever pulled out a gun, he’d be fired without any hesitation what so ever. So like you already said, in the VERY LEAST Arenas should be suspended for a year without pay.
Can’t argue with a single word you have written. Both are idiots and should be heavily fined about a million dollars and suspended for a year without pay. This is a seriously bad image for the NBA.
On another note, I will glady subscribe to Sirrus/XM satelite radio if you were on. Might be something to look into.
I don’t know many of the facts because the facts of this incident are still being substantiated, but what I’ve heard & seen from G. Arenas, NBA TV, and Stephen A. Smith I’ve gotta ask, WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH G. ARENAS, THE WIZARDS ORGANIZING, AND THE LEAGUE???
G. Arenas inflicted this imbroglio on himself. I’m all for the 2nd amendment right to bear arms within adherence to federal and state laws. I can understand that there are reasons to carry a concealed firearm to the workplace depending on different factors of personal safety, but to brandish and a firearm in a secure environment is beyond senseless. I didn’t rush to judgement to condemn G. Arenas until I heard factual evidence, but the foolhardy interview that G. Arenas tried to palliate the situation into a joke gone bad really baffled me, and I begged the question of
WHY WOULD HE OPEN HIS MOUTH TO REPORTERS TO UTTER NONSENSICAL LOGIC TO THE SITUATION???
SHUT-UP GILBERT AND HIRE AN ATTORNEY.
I’M NOT BELIEVING HIS HORSE-CRAP AT ALL”
Are he Wizards Organization so desperate to win games, that when knowing of the incident, they tried to furtively keep this from the league???
To my knowledge, the Wizards haven’t even reprimanded G. Arenas in any regard, even after his pre-game antics before the tip-off against the 76ers on 1/5/10.
Commissioner David Stern basically had no choice but to levy his iron-fisted order upon G. Arenas’s imminent future as a BBall player.
I agree with you that Arenas needs to suspended for a year and the Wizards should void his contract.
Although I agree with much of what you have said and written, I’m look at the BIG picture. The NBA has given these young men lifestyles most people don’t even dream of. They’re given enormous contracts before they bounce a ball in a NBA arena. The background of some of these indiviuals aren’t desirable. And the “LEAGUE” is failing them when they continue to give them money without educating them on how to living morally fit life. These guys need guidences from a spiritual standpoint all the way to how they spend a penny. They are controlled on the court, they can’t speak about certain social issues like Darfur because the NBA and David Stern are more worried about their relationship with other countries. So they can expand their product and bring in more foreign players. But when the player leave the arena and go indulge in drugs and women, and some men, they are told nothing. The NBA has moral issues, and it’s had them long before Gilbert Arenas. It’s a great chance he could have played his last game in the NBA but do be alarmed, the slave ship will keep rolling. David Stern is the BIGGEST producer of millionaire slaves this country has ever seen.
In just just 6-8 months we have had: A pro football player kill a man while DUI. A pro golfer caught cheating on his wife with 10+ women. A pro football player shoots himself with a gun. A pro basketball player brings a gun with him into the locker room. A pro football player is killed when thrown off the back of high speed truck.
It really is unbelievable. And the sad part is I fear it is a lot worse then it appears on the surface. I believe that these are only a fraction of the many incidents that happen day to day with these athletes.
Stephen A Smith welcome back. You are dead on, I will go a step further on pure stupidity Gilbert should lose his contract and whatever punishment is required under law let him have it. My biggest issue with Arenas is he never took the situation seriously and if true why not pay the damn bet. Crittendon as well why are you so enraged over 500 dollars when it is really chump change. Stern is not the bad guy because his actions have created a bunch of millionaires who for the most part would not have achieved such heights and to have it gauranteed unlike the nfl. I think the league might opt for rules like the NFL.
These guys like Vick, Plaxico and now Arenas are victims of this hardcore thing running in black society. When someone who is confused then get millions of dollars they don’t get cured all of a sudden they just get more confused. Black Media is a problem too. Black Media glorifies Will Smith but hates Ice Cube but when you look at both and see whose done more for black community it’s Ice Cube. They glorify Jordan, Kobe and Woods but hate Iverson. Again look at whose done more for their community and it’s Iverson hands down. Our own media folk put up these fake ass heroes and ignore the real ones but then get mad when our children follow them. Like Deion Sanders says many airplanes land safely everyday but only the crashes are newsworthy. Even Spike Lee did a documenatry on KOBE are you kidding me? Just because he scored 81 points in a game? How about putting those who give back to their people on these magazine covers and documentaries then maybe our kids would choose to follow those who are trying to do THE RIGHT THING.
Stephen A…LOVE YOU! You and Jason Whitlock hit it both on the head. One of your repliers, Larry, stated that the athletes gotta know the history of the sport. Whitlock commented on that same subject! As much as I am a fan of the great “JC” Owens, even I did not know that he was the 1st Balck athlete signed by Adidas!!! Thank you for enlightening me Larry. And by the way, If Jordan had to EARN his salary from the Bulls, why don’t these others prove themselves before making the big bucks? You say they wouldn’t sign? Yeah they would because they would be status quo and if it don’t pay enough, they can always go get a job at the local rec as a coach.
Mr. Smith
I disagree with your article in a major way, Black Ballplayers are not role models and should not be looked to as such they are entertainers plain and simple. What Gilbert Arenas did was stupid and he will pay the price for his actions but why should 38 million African- Americans bear the racial burden of ‘Black Guilt’ every time some Black sports/entertainer screws up, I’m sorry I am not my brothers keeper especially when racial politics comes into play by the media.
And you sportswriters (black, white or otherwise) need to stop using hip- hop as to blame for the so-called thuggery that goes on amongst 10% of bad seeds in sports. Guns, violence and drugs amongst pro ballplayers were around long before Kool Herc and Afrika Bambattaa started the “four elements” of Hip- Hop culture in the early 1970’s so that dog won’t hunt. Mr. Smith, tell “King” David Stern to stop using modern ghetto hip-hop culture at their arenas it’s very confusing when you want to stamp out certain elements of hip-hop and then embrace it like vampire feeding on a corpse.
Law abiding African- Americans like myself have enough on our plates just living out lives, when you and the rest of so-called lynch mob wanting Arena’s hide are going to be out front protesting the boardrooms of major media giants promoting this crap 24-7 on our t.v. sets and people like yourself on the street corners standing up to dope dealers and criminals then I might stand with you, but I highly doubt the tough talk from you Sharpton, Cosby or anyone else is going to stop the bad actors in the African- American so-called community.

From SAS: Correction: Athletes SHOULD NOT be role models. But they are. They don’t get to determine their status in society. Society does. It’s unfortunate, but true.
I think you are a little too hard on the man. We know Arenas made a mistake but he didn’t hurt anybody so he should not be suspended. Maybe he should be required to do some community service but don’t take the mans money. That is what I believe.
Stephen A, you couldn’t have hit this one more on the head if you tried for the next 100 years. Black or white, these athletes must ensure they are presenting a credible image as they must know that thousands of young kids are following their every move.
I attribute a great deal of the thug image (tats, headbands, attitude, bling, etc.) directly to your friend Allen Iverson. In addition, the real flamboyant “stars” who have also contributed mightily include Neon Deion, Michael Irvin, TO, Randy Moss, etc. etc. etc. They seem to live in their own fantasy world and don’t, in my opinion, have a clue concerning their influence on our youth.
In any event, keep up the superb work. We miss your appearances on ESPN.
What I wouldn’t give to be the worst player on the worst team in the NBA, making league minimum. I could work the rest of my life and never see that type of money. These players need a mentoring system in place. You can’t make someone a role model who hasn’t had positive role model themselves. I never look to athletes to measure myself as a human being, but many do. You are right on the money with you blog, Stephen.
Thanks
As a Citizen of the United States- and black man
I RESERVE the right to carry a properly registered handgun(s) just like my White male counterparts.
The NBA or no other sports league can take that away from me or any other black male who follows the rule of law.
Something tell me that if the National Rifle Association got involved in this case – the whole conversation would switch
###
From SAS: You’d be absolutely correct, James, if Gilbert had a licensed firearm and he didn’t carry it into the work place.
from a misbehaving Black man to
Who has a RIGHT to carry firearms in this nation.
Winston-Salem State’s finest…..you hit it right out the park Steven….Hank Aaron style! Keep up the excellent work my brother!
###
From SAS: Thanks, Melvyn.
Although I agree with much of what you have said, I’m look at the BIG picture. The NBA has given these young men a lifestyles most people don’t even dream of. The NBA has moral issues, and it’s had these issues long before Gilbert Arenas. It’s a great chance he could have played his last game in the NBA but do be alarmed, the slave ship will keep rolling. David Stern is the BIGGEST producer of millionaire slaves this country has ever seen.
It is the conditioning that issues the answer. The question is why do each individual act out in a certain manner and wish a pardon from their skin color. What he did does not make sense but his behavior took those steps and it makes a group of people question our society. If I took a gun to work people would not care that I no longer had a job after working the same job for 17 years. He is not a role model,he is a basketball player and until our black community claim better individuals to follow we will continue to claim foul.HELP!
###
From SAS: Amen, Brother!
Thank you for making those comments, I couldn’t make those type of statements because I’m white and would be accused of “disrespect” even though my best friend is a “South-side” black, truly. I am a big NBA fan and these kind of actions do need to be addressed, and no excuses Gilbert. I will be visiting Philly in June, and will be following you, it is a shame though that in a case like that I have to watch what I say, thank goodness for great writing from the likes of you, Mr Smith.
Stephen A,
I agree that we as a community should take on the belief of the commissioner and not tolerate this foolishness. I believe that once upon a time the black community held high standards for each other. We were held accountable for our actions. We have been bought, hence we have sold out intelligence for stupidity. As a group we need to go back to these standards and let our “Nays be Nays and “Yeas be Yeas”.
Stephen A,
BTW I am a huge fan. I look forward to you back on tv and radio on a consistant basis. Being forthright myself keep on keeping on my brother. Thanks for your courage to be what we all are to be…intelligent human beings!!!!
Once again, spot on Stephen A.
First, thanks for providing a forum to express out thoughts on your website. As a kid growing up in a small town outside of Buffalo, NY, where I use to watch the Buffalo Braves play, I was a HUGE NBA fan. My love for the game only grew after Magic and Bird entered the league. Once they left, the league changed or I started seeing it differently (maybe through different lenses i.e., from a child’s eyes and now from a working adults set of eyes) and felt I didn’t relate to the players like I did when I was younger. Things like AI’s “practice” speech, Artest running in the stands, Cuban’s sideling behavior, Rodman’s antics, and now GUNS in the locker room. There are many great players in the NBA. But as you know, the players who conduct themselves in an unprofessional/thuggish behavior brings the league down. I think the NBA needs to do everything they can to protect the image of the NBA and each player really needs to understand they are the ambassadores of the game. It degrades all the work Bill Russell, Wilt, Bird, Dennis Johson, Kareem, etc. did to make the NBA such a great game to watch. I don’t watch the NBA with the love and passion I once had for the players and the game. However, I have hope that the image will change after listening to Jamison’s speech to the Wizards (Bullets) fans before the game.
Stephen A., spot on with the Arenas thing. However, I just checked you on Hannity show. I don’t see how you could compare Reid’s comments with Trent Lott’s.
Reid said something that was idiotic. He basically said that Obama had a good chance to become president because he was light-skinned and didn’t sound “Black”. That wasn’t a swipe against Black people. That was actually a swipe against America.
Lott basically said that the country would have been better off if a segregationist and blatant racist would have been elected president.
How are those equal? They’re not, so I don’t believe the repercussions should be the same. I’d love to hear your take.
figured u wouldnt post my comment!! shit too real for ya!!
###
From SAS: Perhaps if you shut the hell up for a second and showed me a comment you actually posted, it would’ve been here. I certainly have not seen it.
Stephen A. I saw you on Hannity last night. All I can say is wow you are not the guy I used to watch on ESPN. I hope you are ready for the sellout label.
I know its your house but you said I was welcome anytime.
Good luck.
###
From SAS: It’s so EMBARRASSING when folks use the “sell-out” label. It’s also amazing. I’ve been a journalist for 16 years, known for calling things like I see them, no matter what. Yet, when it comes to politics, the moment I express a different point of view than folks believe I should have….supporting my opinions with facts, I’m a sellout. This is precisely why the Black Community is disenfranchised, devoid of any real representation. Because one party has been exceptionally skilled in hoodwinking us into believing anyone from the Black community who disagrees with their point of view about our plight is a sellout. What a damn shame! Well, I’m sorry to inform you, but I’m going to continue to do what the facts tell me to do. Regardless of the condemnation coming from folks like you.
God Bless!
You are exactly right. We are all responsible for our actions. Contradiction is ignorance.
Its so upsetting to see these African American males making bad decisions like this. Gilbert has to know better as well as Michael Vick, and Plexico Burress. Yes they may have grew up in rough neighborhoods and been through so much but thats no excuse. I am from Gary, Indiana born and raised and i know what its like growing up in a rough area. I have my B.A from a University, im currently working on my masters while working two jobs to make ends meet, and volunteering regulary in my community.I love sports, I dream about playing professional sports and if i had that opportunity i would take it and make something of it by staying out of trouble, also by making good decisions. Once you become a certain age you should know better then to bring firearms to your job, especially when you have enough money to hire security. Some people think they are above the law when they have lots of money, which is rediculous because the law is the law and when you are BLACK with money seems like whatever you do wrong is magnified times 100.Its a shame because everytime I hear about a athlete in trouble i just have a bad feeling that he’s black! I still got love for these troubled athletes but Come on fellas lets get it together.
Stephena I think you brought alot into perspective, but at the same time you are inadvertently bringing attention to someone who clearly deserves none. Especially considering the circumstances of the whole so called argument it’s pitaful. Lets not fail to recognize those who are excelling on and off the field. I think there is more important people who should be recognized right now as the NFL playoffs are going on. One of them is Charles Woodson. He is a premeire athelete( who is having a career year considering his age), and I KNOW IF IT WERE LEBRON JAMES receiving this type of accolated you would not stop talking about how great he is. Mr. Woodson is doing alot not only for the black community but for people as a whole. He has been doing alot on and off the field and I think he deseves some recognition ( he should have got MVP). I know you from Hollis but now is a time were we cannot let negativity overshadow the accomplishments of other who derserve it.
I other news, the recap of the 2008 election was revealed in a the “Game Changing book” Your thoughts Stephen A I know you do not hold back on you opinion.
###
From SAS: Touche’ on the Charles Woodson point. I have not read the book you suggested, but I’ll get it.
This Tirade that took place in the Wizards Locker Room is just plain Childish and Stupid. These Million Dollar Athletes are arguing over a few measley dollars. I am very disturbed by this. The two involved have put their careers in Jepordy and could possibly serve jail time.
Shame on you Stephen for feeding into Sean Hannity’s propaganda machine yesterday. You compared Reed’s comments with that of Trent Lott’s is absolute pandering. You had the nerve to mention partisan politics as your motivation for attacking Reed while your very presence on that show made you a tool of the most partisan right wing attack machines. Reed should not have used the word Negro; bad Reed. Lott’s comments were an endorsement of Jim Crow. I hope you get a nice payment for the selling your soul to the man.
PS. In case you don’t know, the man is a mean spirited carpetbager from a penal colony.
###
From SAS: I respectfully disagree with you, Eugene. I don’t trust ANY OF THESE POLITICIANS. Everything is used as a political tool the manipulate the masses, as far as I’m concerned. Regardless of what one may believe Sean Hannity’s agenda to be, that has nothing to do with me, whether I appear on his show or not. No matter where I’m at, I would’ve said the same thing, which is this: Trent Lott’s words were far more insulting to me. But that is not the point. The point is, when he said what he said it was politicized to get him removed from his position. Politicians were the ones who insisted he had to be replaced, saying there’s no place for insensitive racial rhetoric being spewed by an elected official. Under the premise, consistency is demanded. Passes can’t be handed out because it fails to work beneficially for one party’s agenda. It’s about all about being in a position to judge elected officials under ONE STANDARD. It’s just that simple to me. I have no agenda whatsoever with party affiliations. I’m an independent for a reason: I DON’T TRUST POLITICIANS FROM EITHER SIDE OF THE AISLE.
Thank you for the email. God Bless!
Stephen A, congrats on getting another oppurtunity to host your own national radio once again!! I have a question, now that Agent Zero has been charged with a felony, do you think he’s done as a Washington Wizard?
Lets not blame Hip-Hop. It’s a form of entertainment. It’s not responsible for people who take it too seriously.
In the end, it probably isn’t even a factor in Arena’s actions. He just might be a gun nut, and have emotional problems, either from genetics, a complicated childhood. Or in the end it could be just a single isolated case of acting stupid.
Lets not overanalyze it and blame any of this on hip-hop or black culture, that’s just unfair.
###
From SAS: I don’t agree, Jack. Not entirely, anyway. Ofcourse, Hip-Hop is not to blame. But some elements that ooze from Hip-Hop play a role in influencing these dudes. There’s no way around it. The facts speak for themselves. One incident after another, combined with the way they choose to carry themselves despite being in a professional environment proves as much. You cold be blind and still see it.
This crazy Ben Roethlisberger gets accused of raping a women and the media does not say anything about it. Kobe Bryant get accused of the same thing and its a media friendzy. So why when Gilbert Arenas a BLACK NBA player bring a unloaded gun to the locker room its the worst thing ever? This is where i see the race issues in sports media. Ben Roethlisberger a WHITE man former super bowl MVP gets basically nothing for a crime for more worst than carrying an unloaded gun. Which one would you rather leave your daughter around a man who is a accused rapes or a man who carries around unloaded guns. And remember the only thing he is guilty of is having unloaded guns. And the stories or just stories not facts. This women screams rape on Big Ben and its like “He’s white there’s nothing there” and its not a big deal. I need answers man!
###
From SAS: The answer is….regardless of how appalling it is, the two stories don’t necessarily relate. Ben is in the NFL; Gilbert is in the NBA. An accusation was made against Ben, which he emphatically denied. Gilbert’s incident was a point in fact because he flat-out admitted what he did by tweeting about it. Regardless of the numerous unfair incidences that occur as it pertains to race, this isn’t the comparison to make that argument about. It just doesn’t fly. Sorry.
Stephen A:Im a long time fan of yours im throwing you some so cali luv ur way brotha, its good to read your current post knowing your still in the game trying to get bounce back to that starting rotation in your line of duty. Keep up the great work and continue to keep it real which is the main factor on why i am a fan of yours. Also i hope i aint asking for too much but if you get the slight chance i would truely love to hear your take on the Money Mayweather Vs Pac man or Juice man blockbuter fight that fell through . Peace
###
From SAS: Thanks, bro. But I DID speak on Mayweather/Pacquaio. I said that I understand Mayweather’s concerns because Pacquaio has moved up 7 weight classes and carried more power with him, which is very, very suspicious. However, you’ve got to get it done. Figure it out and go from there. That’s just my belief.
I’m a chinese. i think that taking a gun in a fly is not allow. All I can do is pray and hope that Gilbert will change to a better man.
FOX Radio please bring back Czabe, this show is a joke and probably the worst sports talk radio show that I have ever been exposed to. Stephen A. Smith should stick to NBA and NBA only. Everything on his show is always trying to relate to the hood or ghetto or street life and other nonsense. People that do live in the hood or ghetto dont listen to sports talk radio at 6am so get a clue. You are an embarrassment to the many African Americans that do listen to your show. There is nothing wrong with being a proud Black Man but try and do it with some class. You sound like a goof. Speak like you have that education that you earned. Sadly I hope that your show is cancelled within the next few months as it should be.
[...] best commentary I’ve seen on this comes from sports writer and pundit Stephen A Smith, and I agree with his take 100 percent. Gilbert Arenas is not the latest idiot on the block. His [...]
Mr.Smith, While I do not always agree with you as a matter a fact I think I disagree with you more times than not but I get you. I think alot of people do not. That said Mr. Arenas et.al need to remember that they are “Professional Athletes” that are here for entertainment not to be role models that is why I have never looked at an athlete as a role model. They simply make money using there god given talent. It kills me that these “few idiots” are ruining the game that I love so much. Take Care and please keep yell at Steve Hartman if I ever meet him I will have a long discussion with him regarding “loyalty” in regards to MY LAKERS!! Peace
Gilbert Arenas has irritated the sensitive base that exist in sports by supposedly placing a gun before Jarvis Crittenton in joking manner. Speculation suggest that Arenas did this in order to prove a point to Wizards’ other Guard, Jarvis Crittenton, that he indeed was bluffing about shooting [Arenas] in the knee over money disputes. This was the affect of confusion over gambling debt between the two. When I first got wind of the story, I thought to myself, this is so Gilbert. Second, I thought, who spilled this confidential episode that shouldn’t be released to the public. In sum, whoever dropped the ball on this occurrence, actually was playing on cultural fears. Arenas has always been an expressive type of person, as you can recall with past antics. For instance, a past recording – shown below – of Arenas and Stevenson displayed the two engaging in competitive spirits, over who could hit the most three-pointers. That recording echoed the true Gilbert Arenas, an humorous, free spirited type of person. In fact, I feel this whole event has been blown out of proportion. Lets be real, my kind, African Americans, we don’t act cordial and proper like the masses when it comes to “Cash Flow”. Conversely, I must admit, the whole purpose that presented animosity between the two was very immature and foolish – nothing was going to escalate past the flashing of guns, as in fact, did. Though, Reporters were out of alignment since the story surfaced. Initially, their stance was that Arenas and his teammates drew guns on each other, which was totally exaggeration and played exclusively on cultural alliances. Now, as of today, their intentionally misinterpreting his context, of which he stated Monday that Commissioner Stern is “mean”. Any person with common sense knew Arenas’ definition of such claim. Based on Stern’s past of giving earnest punishments, I would consider them mean, too. Cut Gilbert some slack, his profile is very productive, persuasive and far from what [Reporters] are trying to draft him as. It’s not fair to paint an ill portrait of Arenas through cultural lenses. Let me end this by saying this: everybody involve with this conflict is wrong.
I dont know if I agree or not…I cant get two words into anything “Stephen A” writes because he is such a racist, blathering, idiot. Everything and everybody is “holding down the black man;” everything is the white man’s fault. It is only a matter of time before Fox Sports comes to their senses and removes this jackass from the airwaves.
###
From SAS: I’ll ask you the same question I’ve asked the few white folks who’ve accused me of such a thing: Where are you the 95% of the time when I’m calling out BLACK ATHLETES??? It’s very rare in the world of sports that I get an opportunity to talk about White Folks because they’re usually not the ones making news. So if you have a problem with me, then it’s simply you picking up on the few times I’ve had something to say about White folks and ignoring the significant body of my work. Just a thought.
Hope you respond in a respectful manner.
Wow, this situation is so unecessary, and he is actually one of my favorites. I agree with you some what. If you say that the black community suffered, then you can’t leave out the fact that far to many adults in the the black community have failed our children. I believe many of our young players act irrespnosible because often times they grew up with no one being accountable for anything.
I’m not saying this as an excuse, because I also believe that at some point in your life you have to understand that you have the power to choose and are responsible for the outcome of your future no matter what hand you were dealt in life; unfortunately this revelation takes more time for some. Mr. Arenas, you are so much better than that! Thanks Stephen A. you are the best~
Stephen A. I wasnt calling you a sellout but I enjoyed the response. You should do more political commentary.
7th and 27th 1989
I was going to comment on gilbert and explain why I disagree with your statements I heard on openline with bob sled and the gang 2 sundays ago but I prefer to hear you address the mike greene comment or so called slip of tongue, calling martin luther king, martin luther “coon” on a national radio show. This in my opinion should have been addressed by you as fast as you did the arenas story.
Stephen I will pray for you and all other blacks who agree with you. Ther second amendment is only for ” Whie People” right? Most States has a concealed carry law. I saw at two different rallies by Obama, people in the crowd not 100 feet from the President with 9mm hand guns and one guy had an assault rifle these guys were interviewed by the media and they clearly did not hide these weapons. You are a Media Whore and and Uncle Tom Steppin and Fechtin for anybody (WHITE) with some money I saw on MSNBC denorgrating the president, but you never said anything how the Rep. have done so much to destroy healthcare with the Media and Health care and Insurance Greed showing. In short you are a fool.
What uis awaiting moderation mean you want to check with The NRA first you want to see what your white slavemaster have to say you want to send my name to the FBI so they can misuse me you are such a Tom why don’t tyou tell these guys to be Ameicans and legally follow the second Amendment like all those white Republicans who blamed Haitis earthquake on a pact with the Deviland you said nothing about that you are worst than a fool you are just vicious to the Black comminty
My comments were the last on this subject I quess I was too brutally honest for you and all the rest of the ignorant Negroes who agree with your UNcle Tom butt you are just confused you are a self hating black the only hope for you and Negroes like you is Praayer and more prayer you are possed by the devils If you go to Church does your church, comment on all the crime and Murders in America did you say anthing about tha traitor Ronald(6)Wilson(6)Reagan(6) old Mr.666 traded Arms with hostages behind the back of Jimmy Carter at the same time campainging aginst Carter and saying the hostages were his fault, he got numerous cabinet and advisers indicted and Jailed they brought Crack Cocaine into this community and you’re talking about a HIP-HOP mentality well thanks Nancy and Ron Just say No did you say anthing Oliver North and Gordon Liddy both on FOX with you. Stephen you only have creditbility with slave mentallity people self haters like yourself. What happened to The Brady Bill Conceled carry ,NRA ?
I just want to say that I miss your “Quite Frankly” TV show. I would stay up late just to watch you. It was so good to see someone that was so nicely dressed. You were a sharp dresser. A welcome change from these ‘hanging pants, too-big pants and shirts, mixed colors, caps backwards, shoelaces untied, rags hanging out of pockets, holes in pants, etc. The way some entertainer (especially rappers) dress is sad. It just warms my heart when I see the way you dress. I hope you’re back on TV pretty soon.
This was an intresting thread thanks for the information !…
