Great Podcast. Congrats to the Lakers(It took alot for me to say that)Stephen why would Lebron go to New York? It makes know sense. The knicks are terrible.Lebron by himself will not make them a championship team even Michael Jordan said that.I think he’ll stay in Cleveland.Second Shaq to the Cavs IMO is not a good move they should go after Odom are Amare Stoudemire.I’m Shaq fan but his time is up.And he did give Kobe props..

Magic is SHOWTIME.. But Kobe is the greatest one on one guys to date.. Mike, the greatest. KG was the x-factor to this playoffs. But like u said we’ll never know. I just know the League is back in full effect. So is the podcast bro!!!

Vick served his time… Some of these murderer’s and abuser’s (in all the leagues) are getting off. The man paid his debt- let him be, let him play. On point, on time Steve. -Q.

Definitely agree with Kobe in the top 10, I can’t give you 10 people better. Definitely disagree with Phil is in the top three, he’s the best ever period. People are going to knock phil cause he had jordan, shaq, kobe. Well how many championships did red win with the greatest champion of all time bill russell? And Russell was playing against short white boys with half his size and athleticism. How many does wooden win without the greatest college basketball players of all time? Phil Jackson is the greatest because he won more games, more championships, and did it during a period with free agency and the greatest athletes to ever play the game. he beat a hall of famer for nearly every championship. No argument, greatest ever.

Good podcast, loved the talk you did about Kobe on the Top Ten players list. I’m not sure where I would put Kobe on the list, but agree with what you were saying on it being difficult to find ten guys definitively better than Kobe.

    Stephen A. Smith,
Man Stephen A.Smith I love the way you represent what Barack Obama has presented to African American males, that in order to be sucessfull you dont have to just play basketball, sell drugs or rap as a black man. I’m 21 years old from Las Vegas,NV entering the journalism field, my question to you is how did you build your reputation in order to be able to work for some of the best newspapers and eventually ESPN?

What up Steven A. Miss seeing you on the tube brah. Just heard your podcast, loved it. Kobe has moved up into my top 5 players with this win. He has cemented his legacy and now will have a statue of his own outside the Staple Center. Can all the Kobe vs Lebron talk stop now please? After these playoffs there should’nt be any doubt in anyone’s mind who the best player in the game is, not even the man that is the definition of haterism, Mr. Skip “I Hate Everything” Bayless can deny it. I think too many people put a lot a stock into what he has done off the court and are missing the greatness that he brings. Everybody keep waiting for the NEXT Jordan. HELLO! he just won his 4th. Wake Up! You are Missing It! Is he better than Jordan? I don’t know. Maybe. But i’m biased because i’ve been a Laker fan since my father took me to see Magic & Kareem play the Mavericks at Reunion Arena. Been hooked since. If he aint better than Mike then he is the closet we going to get to it. And can the talk about him winning without Shaq stop. What has Shaq won before he got with Kobe and Phil? Nothing. Oh, the title in Miami? Thats D-Wade’s. Shaq was along for the ride. Alonzo out played him in the finals. No one else in the league has what Kobe has. Killer Instinct. Determination. Smarts and unbelievable skill.
The Lakers are the best team and Kobe IS the best player.

What is going on with Howard’s 11 points? When it is time to leave everything on the court, he didn’t. Losing isn’t the problem. Not showing up is. Everybody hates on Kobe, but when it’s time to leave it all on the court, he does. Props to Kobe.

great podcast once again. I totally agree with you they need to leave Vick alone. if Burress gets to play after what he did would be a shame. The commissioner is tripping he should have been reinstated Vick as soon as he got out of jail. The gun could have went off and killed somebody or hurt someone badly. I cant wait until 2010 I want to see what all these big name players are going to do.

LA & Boston next year – LA in 7 at LA… Shaq cost LA “chip” drought which Kobe & Co took care of last night! I hope Jerry can find a way to keep the Lakers together because I see another “3Peat.” I’m salivating for Bynum’s opportunity to put in a full season of work. If he does, he’s going to be a beast and the Lake Show will be unstoppable… Keep it up SAS. Your commentaries are the best in the business. Enjoy the Summer.

    Hey Mr. Smith,

You sure do have a way with words, lol I absolutely love it. Just got in from work and this was a real treat. Basketball season is officially over. Congrats to the Lakers and Kobe for doing the damn thing and of course Lamar Odom eating his skittles (lol) I am proud of Kobe as well. He is definitely one of the greats.

Im already ready for the season to start next year. If Shaq goes to Cleveland omg that would be absolutely insane. Mr. Smith can you imagine a Lakers/Cavs matchup in the finals. Shaq vs Kobe once again. I know I am a little beside myself but wow that would be good stuff.

Last but not least Im glad you will be covering politics in your podcast. I am a law student and we discuss politics a lot. Its not my strongest subject. Your someone I respect and listen to so maybe you can teach me something.

Well Mr. Smith enjoy the remainder of your evening. I will be tuned in to Steve Harvey tomorrow. I look forward to your Strawberry Letter feedback. I will be anxiously awaiting your next podcast. Thanks for giving me some real rap to look forward to.

What’s good Stephen A.? The man that does it like no other. Well, I guess you were very close. The Lakers did one game ahead of schedule lol. I am proud of the boys but especially Kobe. I almost shed a tear when I saw him jumping up and down and just reflected on everything that he has been through in the last 7 years. The man has been to the mountain top, had his whole image destroyed, got villainized as the man that destroyed the Lakers, had to spend the highest levels of his career playing amongst scrubs in a rebuilding process, booed by his own fans, lost to the one team in the whole league that he will never be able to live down, and now he is back on top with all the nay-sayers and believers that he wouldn’t make it back without shaq speechless and more than full stomachs after eating their words. Say what you may about the man but he is the epitome of a champion. And he has played around 4 years (NBA wise) of games in the last 2 years. The man is tired and I don’t think he is on the decline yet. We will see a more motivated and rested Kobe Bryant next season I think. Anyone that has seen the look in that man’s eyes knows he hasn’t had enough. The beast has been fed and “Quite Frankly” I don’t think anyone knows what they are in for in the seasons to come.

    Much love Stephen

Stephen, I so miss you on TV, you are so outspoken and I agree with you fairly often. I kept wondering where the heck you went, and I found myself here and will be listening for your podcasts.
I am so proud of the Lakers. What a team, and it is my very sincere hope that Lamar Odum stays. When Lamar wasn’t playing well, the Lakers weren’t playing well. And those Derek Fisher 3’s, and KOBE, all day long. It’s always the Kobe show when he plays, but it’s nice to see the team working as just that– a team. I love the hugs and support they all give one another. Kobe is like watching something wonderful take shape in front of your eyes, he keeps getting better in every way and more mature and giving.
    Nice.
I miss you, Stephen. You are my favorite sports analyst. You always say what you think and don’t soften it up. We love that about you.

Glad I found you on Twitter which got me here to your website. I really enjoy the passion you bring to your work. I hope you’ll come back to TV soon, but as long as we get to hear your opinions on things, that’s all that we care for. BET perhaps?

Kobe is definitely in the top 10 basketball players of all time and he still has plenty of time to win more rings. Kobe/LeBron hype needs to end – Kobe is clearly the best right now and LeBron will definitely have to dethrone him to take that title, which is no easy task.

I’m glad we won the championship, although as a Laker fan, a part of me truly wanted to see Boston again in the finals. I wanted to see the Lakers “face their demons,” but perhaps that’ll happen a year from now. For now, I’ll bask in the glow of another championship and see how teams respond accordingly. I can’t wait until next season and a year from now as the NBA will be crazy!

LET VICK PLAY – That’s all I gotta say on that.

Good to see intelligent responses from other brothers/sistas in here too.

Keep up the excellent work Stephen A.

I’m intrigued by the idea you briefly mentioned regarding Shaquille O’Neal going to the New Orleans Hornets. I think at the very least, he can provide some sort of veteran leadership and toughness to that squad with a bright future (assuming they hold on to Paul). And leadership and toughness is exactly what the Hornets are desperately lacking, and that was evident in that atrocity that we all saw in the first round against the Denver Nuggets.

    Stephen A,

It’s still a mystery to me WHY a talent as yourself doesn’t have a radio station somewhere! I’ve been listening to you for 5 years now and you are solid. The info, the stats, the voice…solid! Much respect.

On another note, I don’t know if I can crown Kobe one of the top 10 players in the history of the NBA. I’m sure he comes close, but my list would have to start with Bill Russell…being that I’m a Celtic fan…and the 10th player would have to be Charles Barkley. In between those guys you have to argue Magic, Bird, Abdul-Jabbar, Worthy, Zeke, Shaq, MJ(of course), Pippen, Drexler, Malone, Stockton, Tim Duncan, and I almost forgot Wilt the Stilt, Willis Reid, Hakeem the Dream, the Admiral…the list of ten best goes on and on. Sorry Stephen A. I don’t normally disagree with you, but I gotta on this one. Can’t wait to hear from you soon.

Kudos to Kobe and the Lakers! Laker Nation would like to see Kobe win 7 more titles to catch Mr. Russell.

If the NBA was comparable to the movie The Lion King. Kobe would be Mufasa. Howard would be Simba and LeBron is more like Uncle Scar. LBJ wants to be King, but there are stronger warriors in his way. LBJ take lessons from Howard! The Magic played great and as a big Kobe/Lakers Fan I am glad we had an opportunity 2 face a classy individual and talented team in the Finals 4 No. 15.

Totally agree with you about Mike Vick. This has gotten beyond ridiculous with what they are putting this guy through. That’s all I’ll say about it cause it makes me angry every time I think about it.

AND YES! Finally someone else who agrees with me about Brett Favre. I will boycott Viking games if he plays. His yoyo yanking on his possible return/retirment is both grating and stupid. I respect what he has done during his career, but I’m over him now after all this circle jerk.

I was totally surprised when the Magic imploded and got the Lakers their 15th championship. I totally did not expect it at all. I thought they’d come out with more fight than that, but it’s neither here nor there. LAL won and I am damn happy about it. Excuse me while I coddle my newly purchased box of Wheaties.

Hey wats up Stephen.A…. Man Im gettin killed on my blog about the Lakers championship . I talked about how they are not a dynasty team waiting to happen because they played teams with injuries and bad coaching decisions help them win ball games that should of lost. I think that if KG, Yao, Tracy , and Manu were playing dor thier respective teams that Lakers would of not won the title. I think that Celtics would of won

Stephen .. Do you think that the Lakers are the best team this season or were they the healthiest and mentally ready??
    ###
From SAS: Being the healthiest and mentally ready makes them the best, Jeremy. We can’t take anything away from them. They’re the champions. There’s nothing to debate until next season when KG returns healthy. The Celtics will have plenty of opportunities to address the matter then.

What’s up man? I’m a little late on the uptake here, but wanna get my word in anyway. It’s funny because Shaq did put on his twitter “shaq tell me how my ass taste.” Good ol’ Shaq.

I gotta agree with you. I think that Howard needs a bully down low. Even Duncan had Bowen, he had Malik Rose, he had Robert Horry. These are guys that were “dirty.” They wanted to play rough. That is what made them so good. The Magic beat Cleveland because they were just flat out better at every position, minus Lebron. The Magic didn’t beat the Lakers cause they were soft. What helped them beat Cleveland? Perseverance. They were tough. They kept fighting. They need that extra umph. Someone who is good at fighting, or Howard needs to become the leader that he should be. We’ll see.
